The success and popularity of the Science of the Surf program is evident by the numerous awards it has received:

• 2009 Australian Safer Communities Award

• 2009 NSW Australian Safer Communities Award
- These awards are sponsored by the Australian Government Attorney-General Department and were given for the video "Don't Get Sucked in By the Rip"

• 2007 NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) Frater Award for Excellence in School Performance
- this award was based on teacher feedback from my Science of the Surf school presentations

• 2005 NSW Sport and Rec AusSwim “Water Safety Event of the Year"
- a special commendation presented by the Minister for Tourism and Sort and Recreation

• 2005 Tamarama SLSC Senior Clubman of the Year Award 2005
- this was based on the success of the SOS talks hosted and supported by the Club

• 2003 Attorney-General Emergency Management Pre-Disaster Category Volunteer Organisation Australia Award
- presented at Parliament House Canberra by the Attorney-General

• 2003 Tamarama SLSC Senior Clubman of the Year Award
- this was based on the success of the SOS talks hosted and supported by the Club. Special thanks to Jon Hancock and Phil Hogan.

• 2002 Sydney Branch NSW Surf Life Saving Community Event of the Year

• 2002 NSW Surf Life Saving Award for Excellence in Community Education
